Medical Education & Professional Development (MEPD) Committee

The Continuing Medical Education (CME) mission of the Medical Education and Professional Development (MEPD) Committee of the Wisconsin Medical Society is to enhance the medical care provided to the citizens of Wisconsin and the Midwest through two educational mechanisms:

  1. Accrediting intrastate organizations that offer CME to physicians and other health professionals in Wisconsin. Surveillance and monitoring of CME Programs accredited by the Wisconsin Medical Society, together with education and support of these Programs, will occur on a continuous basis.
  2. Improving patient care and physician effectiveness by providing accredited CME activities. The content will generally be selected from areas in which the Wisconsin Medical Society has special expertise but not generally offered by other CME providers. The target audiences for these activities are physicians and their teams practicing in Wisconsin and the Midwest.

When providing or jointly providing CME activities, the Wisconsin Medical Society is guided by the principles of requiring valid needs assessment data, acceptable objectives, appropriate educational designs, qualified faculty and substantive evaluation mechanisms primarily for physicians practicing in Wisconsin.

The educational activities include conferences, workshops, symposia, internet live courses, journal-based, enduring material, performance improvement and other activities as appropriate. The effectiveness of CME activities provided or jointly provided by the Wisconsin Medical Society will be consistently evaluated by tools and processes that measure competence, with special attention to changes in knowledge, skills or attitudes.
