About the Foundation
The Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation was chartered in 1955 as a non-profit,
non-stock corporation to enable physicians and other friends of the profession to
support projects vitally affecting scientific medicine and public health.
Mission Statement
To advance the health of the people of Wisconsin by supporting medical and health education.
The
Foundation Board of Trustees directs resources to achieve the following two strategic goals:
- Keep physicians in Wisconsin
- Promote physician-led community-based projects to improve public health
The Foundation strives to accomplish these goals through a variety of programs and events.
Programs
Current "key" programs in support of medical education and health education include:
-
Student loans to medical students. These loans do not accrue interest while the student is in medical school and have an interest rate comparable to unsubsidized Stafford Loans.
-
Scholarships for medical students and those pursuing careers in allied health care professions.
-
Summer Fellowships in Government and Community Service, which offer
Wisconsin medical students the opportunity to work under the guidance
of a Wisconsin Medical Society member to increase their knowledge of
how the state and/or federal government works with the medical
profession to address health issues in Wisconsin.
-
Grants for education and research initiatives that promote modifiable lifestyle choices to improve health.
-
White Coat Campaign to provide a white coat and personal message of encouragement to each first-year medical student attending school in Wisconsin.
